One of the founding institutions of the Fonds Boèce, theECE-Ecole d'ingénieurs, is developing a new scientific research axis: Groupe pour des Approches responsables en Intelligence Artificielle (GAIA).
In the field of computer science research, artificial intelligence (AI) is experiencing rapid growth thanks to the emergence of new models. Every day, a key question arises: "What are the reasons behind the decisions made by the chosen model?
The GAIA axis focuses its work on trusted artificial intelligence models, a crucial issue at a time when AI is intruding into our daily lives, managing our personal data and influencing our choices. The central question is how to build trust in these systems: how to ensure that a model respects criteria such as fairness, robustness, reliability, privacy, security, accountability, transparency and explicability?
Given that AI has become a cross-disciplinary field, GAIA plays a role in integrating the expertise of the laboratory's researchers to meet societal challenges, drawing on complementary disciplinary skills.
Among the engineering school's collaborative projects with prestigious research partners, such as the Laboratoire d'Informatique et des Systèmes (LIS, UMR-CNRS), the Laboratoire bordelais de recherche en informatique (LABRI, UMR-CNRS) and the Laboratoire d'Informatique en Image et Systèmes d'information (LIRIS, UMR-CNRS), we can mention :
- Generative AI and data traceability,
- The impact of data quality and reliability on aggregation processes,
- Improving interactions through new complex visualization techniques.
On March 18, 2025, ECE inaugurated the "Intelligence Lab", a collaborative space open to student-engineers, teachers, researchers and academic and industrial partners. The GAIA axis (Groupe pour des Approches responsables en Intelligence Artificielle) will benefit from the resources of this new platform dedicated to the collaborative development of artificial intelligence projects.
